Excursion to Westermeer Wind farm with RIOE

IX had the honor of organising and partaking in a guided tour to the Westermeer Wind farm with a delegation of the Research Institue for Ocean Economics (RIOE) from Tokyo, Japan. The tour was part of a program the group followed during their visit the Netherlands on offshore Wind energy.

After proper introductions, Eric Kamphues kicked off the day with a presentation on the history and specifics on the Westermeer Wind farm. Windplan Blauw was also mentioned (read more about Windplan Blauw), because of the similarities to the Westermeer Wind farm: both wind farms are partly onshore and partly offshore.

Other participants in this day’s program were Johan Dekker and Willem Klinker from Aratis. They held a presentation on one of their specializations: Offshore tendering and contractmanagement.

The tour to the wind farm was guided by Rob Renne from 11Beaufort. On the way to the wind farm, we were also treated to a small tour through the former island of Urk, a fisherman’s town. Rob provided us with very interesting information on the creation of the Westermeer polder 75 years ago. And provided us with many informative facts on Westermeer Wind during a walk along the dyke that stands between the on- and offshore part of the wind farm.

Once returned to the visitors’ centre, the delegation was presented with a buffet dinner with local products and, the most typical food for this part of the Netherlands, fish specialties.

We cordially thank the RIOE delegation for their participation, trust and pleasant conversations during this excursion, our colleagues from Aratis for their contribution and Rob and his team from 11Beaufort for their service and excellent guiding.
